63% of US Internet Users Search Local

according to comScore 63 % of all US Internet Users (approximately 109 million) conducted a local search online in July 2006, represending a 43% increase compared with July 2005.

Google Sites are first with 29,8 % and Yahoo! Sites second with 29,2%, followed by Microsoft 12,3 % ...



Among those searching in their home area,

- 59 % indicated they were searching for a restaurant or something entertainment-related, such as a theater, theme park or an attraction for sightseeing

- 52 % said they were searching specifically for a business phone number or address

- 41 % were looking for information on a local service in their home area, including car rental office, dry cleaner or lawyer.

and the comScore study found out that performing a local search drives consumers to take action.
